Masjid Care By CGMA Foundation
1. The Man Behind the Mission
Captain (Retd) Ghulam Muhammad Awan was born on July 5, 1951, in Ugali, a village in Khushab district set against the hills of Soon Valley. After 27 years of service as a Pakistan Army officer, he built a name for himself in business — one built on honesty and reliability, the same values he carried into his community work. Over his lifetime, he built or contributed to more than 58 mosques across Soon Valley, including 21 built entirely from his own resources. Alongside the mosques, he supported orphans and widows with monthly assistance, ran free medical camps for the sick, and founded JA School, offering quality education to village children.
Captain Awan passed away on November 30, 2020, and is buried at Masjid Sakhi Shah Jalal, Ugali. His immediate family, led by Haider Awan, established CGMA Foundation to carry his work forward.
2. CGMA Foundation Continues the Work
During his lifetime, Capt. Ghulam Muhammad Awan (CGMA) rebuilt and constructed several mosques as a Waqf, in an act of Ehsāl-e-Sawāb for his forefathers. Continuing his legacy, and upon repeated community request, CGMA Foundation now supports the expansion, maintenance, and preservation of a few of these masajid under its Masjid Care Program.
3. Taleem-ul-Quran
The Taleem-ul-Quran program runs in two sections, Nazra and Hifz, each with its own dedicated classrooms. For girls and women, a separate Islamic Centre provides the same access to Quran education in a dedicated space.
By the grace of Allah, close to 50 children have completed Hifz of the Holy Quran under this program to date, and more than 300 have completed Nazra.
4. Building Capacity Among Local Ulema
CGMA Foundation regularly hosts workshops bringing together ulema from around Pakistan to engage with the local imams and huffaz of Soon Valley. During Ramzan, a dedicated Dora-e-Quran circle also runs for women in the community, extending this same access to Quranic learning throughout the fasting month.
5. Community Development Program — Summer 2026
As part of the wider Community Development Program, a month-long training workshop was held this summer at Masjid Ali-ul-Murtaza and Masjid Sakhi Shah Jalal, with over 90 participants — children and adults alike — taking part. This year, the Taleem-ul-Quran section saw 6 students complete Hifz and 15 complete Nazra, alongside regular classes for enrolled students and 84 students completing the summer course.
